FundingA common question asked by schools is, how can we secure long term funding for the nurture group in our school? There are a number of funding streams which both local authorities and individual schools have tapped into in order to fund groups. A serious problem is often the short term nature of much of this funding which does not help to establish the sense of security and continuity essential for the development of a nurture group and for the staff and children who are part of it. The information will be made available on this site in due course. Another key issue for schools and funding authorities is to show the 'value for money' benefit of nurture groups. Investing in services for younger children is now a recognised part of government strategy. Comparing the costs of running a nurture group with the associated longer term costs of young people placed in special education provison, using mental health services or placed in some form of secure residential care clearly indicates the value of early interventions and of nurture groups.
