Nurturing Social and Emotional Development is a highly practical, inclusive resource at a time when educationalists and politicians are looking to ensure all pupils have access to a curriculum which meets their needs.

This work aims to provide staff in both mainstream and special contexts with resources to develop and deliver a programme to support the development of children's social, emotional and behavioural skills.

Nurturing Social and Emotional Development is set out in a file rather than a book for ease of photocopying for planning files or printing for worksheets. It has three sections plus a CD and a DVD.

Section one includes the theory behind nurture groups and the use of snack time, circle time and the bag game which is used in each lesson. There is a PowerPoint presentation for whole staff development or use with governing bodies and parents.

Section two is the programme of fifty lesson plans following the five domains of SEAL. The lesson plans are well set out, suggest how themes are introduced and have the necessary games out lined and the worksheets provided. The worksheets are less "wordy" than many of the SEAL worksheets and can be used instead or alongside existing materials.

Section three sets out the case studies of three pupils the curriculum and nurture group have helped. There is a detailed description and photos of the nurture room and how the pupils helped set it up. There is an information sheet for parents and staff and a pre and post intervention checklist which the Grange uses in addition to the Boxall Profile.

The CD has all the lesson plans and worksheets, the PowerPoint presentation, the pre intervention checklist and the information sheet for parents and staff.

The DVD shows the staff and pupils using the programme and the development of the nurture group including the use of the Boxall Profile and the pre and post intervention checklist.
